Betty H. Brown of Shelbyville, Tenn., was elected to the Board of Directors of Woodmen of the World/Omaha Woodmen Life Insurance Society as National Trustee on November 1, 1999. She was named a Woodmen of the World Director at the 2001 National Convention, which was held in Charlotte, N.C.

A native of Lewisburg, Tenn., Brown received an executive secretarial diploma from Draughons College. She retired in December 2004 after a career of 46 ½ years with the State of Tennessee, including 34 years as personal executive secretary to the Comptroller of the Treasury.

Brown is a member of Nashville, Tenn., Lodge 1 and Lodge 6250 in Tullahoma, Tenn.; serves as an advisor to the USS Tennessee Woodmen Fraternal Activities Association; and is active in the Tennessee Fraternal Congress (TFC), having been named the TFC Outstanding Fraternalist of the Year in 1991.

Brown was Tennessee Jurisdictional President for Woodmen of the World from 1989 to 1991. From 1991 to 1993, she served on Woodmen of the World's National Fraternal Committee, and was elected a National Representative to the organization's National Convention in 1997. She was also Chairman of the National Convention Credentials Committee that year and was appointed to the National Legislative Committee.

Brown is also active in her community. She works with the Lights of Light program for ladies at the Fairlane Church of Christ and holds membership in Executaries; International Association of Administrative Professionals; United Daughters of the Confederacy; American Legion Auxiliary; Shelbyville Woman's Club; and the Fairview Family and Community Education Club. Prior to moving from Nashville to Shelbyville in 2006, Brown served as a director of the Cane Ridge Community Club, secretary of the Davidson County Council of Community Clubs, and was a member of the Tusculum Church of Christ.

Brown and her husband, James, have two sons, and six grandchildren. Her hobbies include traveling, reading, sewing, camping, and fly fishing.
