Woodmen of the World Gives $7,000 Gift to Austin Parks Foundation

July 30, 2009

Omaha, Neb. — As a gift to the city of Austin for hosting its 46th National Convention, Woodmen of the World presented $7000 to the Austin Parks Foundation during the second day of the convention on July 28.

Charlie McCabe, Executive Director of the Austin Parks Foundation, accepted the gift from Woodmen of the World President and CEO Danny Cummins. The gift will assist with the revitalization of Republic Square Park, a historic downtown park in Austin.

Cummins said, "Austin is a beautiful town, and we're very glad to be here. One might guess from our name that trees are a big deal to us – they symbolize our culture of protecting families. On behalf of all Woodmen members from all over the nation, it's gives us great joy to share with you this gift for the protection and rejuvenation of the oak trees in Republic Square Park."

More than 700 Woodmen of the World delegates and guests from throughout the country convened at the Austin Hilton July 26-29 for the organization's 46th National Convention.  The delegates represent more than 750,000 Woodmen of the World members nationwide, including approximately 100,000 from the state of Texas.

During the convention, delegates attended meetings on both business and fraternal topics, and shared best practices from successful community service endeavors.  The convention concluded Wednesday morning, July 29, with the election and installation of officers.
